Plinth Studio makes display furniture: plinths, risers, vitrines, conservation cases, display walls, wall-mounted cases, turntables, case lighting and the conservation supplies that go inside. We also make plant stands and plant walls, because a specimen plant is an object on display and wants the same things — the right height, a level base, and a top that won't be ruined by water.
Four kinds of people buy the same plinth for four different reasons, and they don't want the same thing from it.
- Galleries want something that photographs cleanly, takes a knock during a hang, and can be repainted between shows.
- Museums and conservators want to know what the case is made of, whether the materials have been Oddy tested, what the air exchange rate is, and how it holds relative humidity.
- Retailers and shopfitters want a module that rearranges on a Monday morning without a joiner, in a finish that will still be matchable in two years.
- Collectors and plant people want one good piece for one good object, at the right height, without a contract quotation process.
So the navigation here starts with who you are, not with what shape the box is.
What we publish on every listing
- Dimensions in millimetres — footprint and height, both filterable, because most people arrive knowing one or the other.
- Load rating for the top, evenly distributed.
- Material and finish, named: gallery white lacquer, matt black lacquer, birch plywood, solid oak, solid ash, powder-coated steel, brushed brass, polished concrete, terrazzo, Corian.
- Whether it is lockable, dust sealed, UV filtering, humidity controlled and Oddy tested — each of those is a collection, because they are what professional buyers actually search on and almost nobody offers them as filters.
- Glazing type and, where relevant, the light transmission and UV figures.
- Wet rated, on plant stands, meaning the top will survive a pot that gets watered.
Batch matching
Order six plinths and they are sprayed in one batch, so the whites match. Order six more next year and we can match them from the recorded batch, which is the difference between a coherent room and a room that looks like it was furnished twice. Touch-up paint is available in any batch we have supplied.
Made to measure
Plenty of objects don't fit a catalogue. We make plinths to a dimension, vitrines to an object, conservation cases to a written specification, mounts and cradles to a shape, and whole plinth sets to a gallery plan. See made to measure.
